NEWARK, DE (June 14, 2012) – About 12 million people alive today in the United States have had some type of cancer. Christiana Mall, the American Cancer Society and celebrity Chef Dana Herbert have joined forces to fight back against the disease and help create more birthdays by presenting The Cupcake Revolution.
This cupcake competition begins on Friday, June 15! From June 15 through June 29, professionals, amateurs and youth are invited to compete by donating $10 to the American Cancer Society and submit a cupcake recipe and a photo of their masterpiece to www.acscupcakerevolution.org. All competitors will be entered into the Cupcake Revolution competition and receive their own web page on the site to feature their cupcakes. Entries will be evaluated and finalists will be chosen for each category. From July 2 – July 11, the public will vote for their favorite cupcakes by going to www.acscupcakerevolution.org. There is a requested donation of $10 to the American Cancer Society per vote.
The 10 finalists in each category will be invited to the Cupcake Revolution Finalist Challenge at Christiana Mall on Sunday, July 15 from noon – 4pm for an epic cupcake bake-off to compete for sweet grand prizes provided by Williams-Sonoma! The day-of festivities will feature VIP seating, cupcake decorating, fun giveaways and a special photo opportunity and book signing with Chef Dana, owner of Desserts by Dana, and also known as Delaware’s “King of Cakes” after his big win on TLC’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker. Everyone who has voted can bring in their donation receipt for an autographed wooden spoon by Dana.
Christiana Mall invites you to compete, vote and indulge in some tasty cupcakes for a worthy organization! By supporting this event, you help make the American Cancer Society’s mission possible, and that helps us all move closer to our ultimate goal: a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.5 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
