The American Cancer Society seeks to understand the genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors that cause cancer through a 20 to 30-year landmark study which builds on CPS2 that linked obesity to cancer risk and a daily aspirin to reduced risk of dying from cancer
WHAT: Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS-3) of the American Cancer Society is a chance to fight back against cancer and help save lives. By enrolling in the study, volunteers will help the American Cancer Society reach its ultimate goal of eliminating cancer as a major health problem. The study seeks a diverse group of 300,000 Americans nationally, including 1,000 volunteers from Baltimore. Walk-ins welcome or register for an appointment: www.CPS3baltimore.org.
CPS-3 will help cancer researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer. The famous CPS-1 study established the link between smoking and lung cancer took place in the 1950s. Recent CPS-2 findings have linked obesity to cancer risk and a daily aspirin to reduced risk of dying from cancer.
Volunteers must be:
Age 30 to 65 and have never been diagnosed with cancer (except for basal or squamous cell skin carcinoma)
